Title

Project Moonshot

Abstract

Federated identity technologies, such as the Security Assertion Mark-up Language (SAML), are becoming increasingly popular for implementing Web Single Sign On (SSO). There is increasing interest in the possibility of using SAML-based federated identity for other types of applications in order to take advantage of the benefits of federated identity - such as strong privacy protection and attribute-based personalisation and authorisation.

Project Moonshot proposes a novel technical approach to satisfy this requirement, building on the SAML and the IETF AAA and GSS frameworks. It is also undertaking a proof-of-concept implementation that is expected to satisfy a diverse range of use-cases from the Research & Education community.

This presentation will provide an overview of Project Moonshot, including a survey of the use-cases, the Moonshot technical architecture, the implementation plan and other related activities.
